Welcome to Hale Akua Garden Farm, our certified organic farm and eco-retreat. We offer individuals, families and groups opportunities to stay at our farm, take courses in organic gardening and permaculture, eat our certified organic food, swim in our solar heated, salt water pool, soak in our hot tubs, get massages, and take yoga and meditation classes if they are interested. We also offer our eco-retreat center to organizations interested in hosting programs in various aspects of organic gardening and farming. Descriptions of some of our own farm classes and tutorials can be found on our website under Farm Education. These classes can be added to organic gardening workshops offered by outside teachers. Our supplemental classes are offered each day Monday through Friday. Massage is also available to workshop participants at an additional cost. All students staying at ale Akua Garden Farm are all able to buy a wide variety of organic vegetables, fruits, eggs, sprouts and honey while studying at the farm. Additionally, caterers are able to make special growing orders and buy produce there ahead of time for any particular course being offered.
We at are working together with the Hawaii Department of Agriculture to make Hale Akua Garden Farm a center for Bee Keeping Education on Maui.
The Hale Akua Garden Farm Internship program
Separate from hosting other people’s gardening and permaculture workshops, we also offer programs in organic farming and permaculture to farming interns. Our program is also enhanced by our including instruction in Compassionate Communication (NVC) in addition to optional yoga and mediation classes. Our belief is that people who train in this form of communication lead more fulfilled lives and are much more likely to be successful in running farms where they need to communicate and work with others to be successful.
All of our managerial staff are trained in Compassionate Communication (NVC), which helps create a joyful ambiance and effective customer service for all students and teachers who stay at Hale Akua Garden Farm.
A typical length of time as an intern is three months. Some interns may apply to stay for six months and be possibly granted a certificate in permaculture design. If you are interested in this program, please send an email to us. You will be sent an application form to fill out within one week of emailing us. Then, a Skype interview will follow, or a telephone interview if no Skype is available. Shortly thereafter, you will be notified if your application into the program is accepted.
